BRACE Partners with Local Grocery Stores for Disaster Preparedness Education.

In recognition of September as National Preparedness Month, BRACE partnered with local businesses to provide free disaster preparedness resources to over 200 residents across the county. On Saturday, September 7, BRACE hosted multiple tabling events around Escambia County at Greer’s Cost Saver, NAS Pensacola Commissary, Publix in Beulah, and Everman’s on 9 Mile. The initiative offered valuable materials such as Disaster Preparedness Guides, the Prepared with Pedro children's guide, disaster supplies lists, and tips for safeguarding critical documents. To encourage participation, each location also gave away a $25 gift card to one lucky winner.

A BRACE representative and volunteer were stationed at the four partnering stores. As they interacted with residents, they distributed essential disaster preparedness information. Many residents expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the materials provided, with one woman mentioning that she had lived in the area for some time but was unsure about the best evacuation routes. We were able to show her the evacuation route page in the disaster guide we gave her, as well as a pamphlet titled “What to Do If Your Community Is Threatened by a Hurricane.” She was grateful for all the helpful information. This successful event saw many attendees expressing interest in learning more about disaster preparedness, BRACE, and volunteering with BRACE.
